Peta Internet Global
Coba lihat sekilas Global Internet Map 2009 dari TeleGeography di sini:

Melihat peta internet global tersebut, tampaknya 'jalan raya' informasi masih didominasi oleh negara-negara Eropa, Amerika Serikat, dan Jepang. Meskipun Internet telah mampu menghubungkan milyaran umat manusia di lima benua, lebar 'jalan raya informasi' antara wilayah yang satu dengan yang lain masih sangat bervariasi.
Negara-negara di wilayah benua Eropa memiliki tingkat interkoneksi yang sangat tinggi. Demikian juga wilayah negara-negara bagian di USA. Titik-titik di kawasan Asia yang memiliki jalur cukup lebar ke Amerika ada di Jepang, Korea, China, dan Singapore.
Lalu apa artinya ini? Kita analogikan saja lebar bandwidth internet dengan lebar jalan raya. Semakin lebar suatu jalan, semakin besar pula kapasitasnya untuk dilewati banyak kendaraan, dan semakin cepat pula kendaraan dapat melaju.
Jadi semakin besar bandwidth jalur internet antar wilayah, semakin banyak pula jumlah informasi yang dapat diakses oleh pengguna, dan semakin cepat pula perjalanan informasi melalui jalur tersebut.
Adakah yang tahu berapa besar bandwidth internet dari Indonesia ke luar negeri? Apakah belum cukup tinggi sehingga tidak masuk di peta global tersebut?
