Anda mencari jurnal gratis? Kalau anda sedang mencari paper atau artikel ilmiah, anda bisa menggunakan layanan dari DOAJ (Directory of Open Access Journals) yang bisa diakses di http://www.doaj.org/ . DOAJ menyediakan layanan untuk mencari artikel ilmiah atau jurnal ilmiah yang bersifat open access. Open access di sini artinya isi artikel yang ada di dalam jurnal tersebut bisa dibaca, diakses, atau didownload oleh siapa saja tanpa harus membayar. Mungkin ada yang mensyaratkan untuk mendaftar, tapi tanpa biaya alias gratis.

Mungkin anda sudah tahu bahwa jurnal-jurnal ilmiah yang kita temukan di internet seringkali hanya menyediakan abstraknya saja (misalnya jurnal-jurnal dari Google Scholar, IEEE, atau ACM). Lalu pada saat kita ingin membaca atau mendownload full-text dari artikel tersebut, kita diminta untuk berlangganan atau menjadi member dengan membayar biaya tertentu. Jurnal semacam ini tidak termasuk kategori "open access" yang dimaksud oleh DOAJ. Bisa saja institusi perguruan tinggi berlangganan jurnal-jurnal semacam itu dan memberikan akses untuk semua mahasiswa dan dosennya, tapi biaya langganannya biasanya cukup mahal.

Pada saat tulisan ini saya buat, situs DOAJ menyebutkan sudah ada lebih dari 3000 jurnal dan 200 ribu artikel yang terdaftar di DOAJ dan bisa diakses secara bebas dan gratis. Jurnal "open access" yang sudah terdaftar di DOAJ berasal dari 91 negara, dan tidak semuanya berbahasa Inggris. Sayangnya belum ada satu pun jurnal dari Indonesia. Untuk bidang ilmu komputer (Computer Science), tersedia 130 jurnal gratis yang bisa diakses.
